Bad Habits

The interesting thing? We’ve all experienced this pattern at some point in our lives. Fortunately, there’s a quick fix: Make a plan for breaking that habit and follow it on a daily basis.

Overall, this is a nice short book that will motivate you to stop doing the bad habit which is not yielding any desirable results in your life. It’s a quick read. It just took 1 hour for me to finish off the book.

I have been struggling with one of my bad habits ‘Binge eating’. If you have a look at my monthly goals, I have been trying to keep myself fit. As part of keeping fit, I want to eat healthily and have been following good routines for the past two months.

Bad Habits

Suddenly a problem at my personal end made me toss up everything and begin binge eating again. I chose this book mainly to see if I can get any valuable suggestions in stopping this habit.

‘Bad Habits No More: 25 Steps to Break Any Bad Habit’ is a step by step mini guide to overcoming a bad habit. I love how the 25 steps explain the various stages we have to undergo when undoing a habit. I can easily relate to the steps explained in the book.

Do you: Often snack on junk food, watch too much T.V., spend too much money or binge eat? Wish you could stop smoking or drinking excessively? Have a small (but annoying) habit you’d like to break?

We all have a specific bad habit we’d like to break. Odds are, you’ve tried in the past and maybe you were successful for a few days. Then something unexpected came up where you slipped for a day or two. One mistake snowballs into a series of setbacks. Eventually, you give up on the idea of making a habit change simply because it’s too difficult to do.

Break Bad Habits

To break a habit, will power alone is not sufficient. We need proper planning and strategy to come out of a habit. Also, Scott explains clearly that this book is not for the people who have a serious addiction problem. It is for those who want to change simple bad routines which we do every day knowingly. I like the openness with which the author explains all these. There is no false claim in the book.

From focusing one habit at a time to identifying our goals, the book explains various topics like creating a deadline to see the progress, keeping ourselves accountable for the habit. There is plenty of challenges we need to face when we try to quit a habit. All are clearly explained in the book with feasible solutions to overcome it.

Scott has covered all these areas with personal anecdotes. He has also given a few useful tools which we can use to track this habit challenge.

I am glad I chose this book. I can now understand where I went wrong with my eating habits. I am emotionally drained for the past few weeks due to an issue that made me succumb to the what-the-hell attitude explained in step #21 of the book. I am glad that the book brought back my sense.

I am planning to make a few changes to my routine as suggested in the book and see if that works. I am sure, I will stick to the routine and remove this bad habit.

If you are looking for a short book to understand what it needs to stop a bad habit, I would recommend it highly.

List Of Bad Habits

Scott has explained all the essential problems we will face when we try to stop a bad habit with his own personal case study. He also offers suggestions on how to overcome each challenge with an example from his own life when he tried to undo his habit of cell phone addiction. The points explained in the book are not only to stop the habit, but it is also the same points we need to ensure while building any new habit.
